St. David & St. Patrick's Anglican Church

Liturgy at St David & St Patrick

Our church is a growing place, and many of those who come are not skilled in Anglican-speak, not skilled in juggling an arm-full of books and papers. So it made sense to write out our liturgy in pamphlets. We have produced different liturgies for every season of the Church year, and special ones for the festivals.

Each liturgy picks up the spirit of the season. Advent has a sense of waiting, expectation, preparation and hope. Pentecost, the green and growing season of the Church, is the season of the Spirit. In this liturgy we pray often to the Spirit, she who is God’s gift from the birthday of the Church. As we wrote we employed images and symbols that fit our lives’ experience and reflect this world in which we live. We used a language with a lightness and a lilt which has a touch of the spirituality of the ancient Celts, David and Patrick being of that tradition. The structure and theology remain Anglican, rooted in the old BCP and the reforms of our church’s liturgical movement.

All the liturgies used in D&P have been sent to our Bishop, and have his blessing. Composition is by Rev David Howells. They may be used by permission of the author.
